Kansas is a place for the grand vista, wide open prairies, and the flint hills. Photographers are drawn to them like white on rice, and for good reason...they make good pictures.
As I have started to make pictures in Kansas I began to find little moments like this, right outside my window. Mundane as they are they never fail to show me that the beauty of Kansas isn't just found in the great vistas, it's these small, seemingly inconsequential moments where the true beauty lies. For me, the backside of an ugly rental and the last sliver of sunlight on the trees is enough to keep my awareness on the familiar scenes of everyday life. For however small, at that moment, nothing can be more grand.
