I spent a Sunday morning walking around the tiny streets that surround Kolkata's New market and came upon this little restaurant with a huge flat top kitchen outside. I waited for a while behind the taxi and made a few frames as the men worked. This one seemed to line up perfectly.
Happy Holi everyone! I was supposed to leave Kolkata today but schedules did not match up and I was able to stay and photograph the festival of colours!
Right outside the building I'm staying in I noticed this shaft of light amongst a slew of signs on the corner. Standing in the street, cabbies honking and trying to move past me, I didn't budge. I knew that if I stood there long enough someone was bound to walk right into my frame. I had no idea it would be this woman, dressed in a blue saree, gazing up into the light as if directed to. The guy in the back on the phone adds another layer of dimension to the frame. Being patient got me this image. The ability to watch and wait, and wait some more is a technique that hasn't failed me yet.
My first day walking around Kolkata in the evening I'm not surprised to find a mass group of people huddled outside an electronics store all anxiously watching the latest cricket match on the 20 some television screens illuminating the sidewalk.
